Android 12L, successor to Android 12, released on March 7, 2022, likely to leave support in September 2025, is an operating system designed for larger screens. 12L improved this compatibility by editing icon size and also changing their look to a more refined, simplistic look.

Graphical changes[]

Android 12L introduced the task bar, an easier, refined way to switch or multitask between apps on Android. It also introduced a way to drag and drop apps onto the screen instead of finding an app from your background apps.

Application changes[]

The Play Store was changed to highlight whether an app was optimized for your device or version of Android. It also introduced large screen specific ratings, to make previewing app performance easier on Chromebooks or tablets.

Optimization for phones[]

12L released as Android 12.1 for Pixel devices on the same date as 12L, except noteably the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro.
