The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 was a phablet smartphone produced and marketed by Samsung. It was unveiled on August 2, 2016 and officially released on August 19, 2016 as a successor to the Samsung Galaxy Note 5.

On September 2, 2016, Samsung suspended sales of the Galaxy Note 7 and announced an informal recall after finding out that a manufacturing defect in the phones' batteries had caused some of them to generate excessive heat, causing fires and exploding. A formal U.S. recall was announced on September 15, 2016 and the affected phones were replaced with newer versions that utilized batteries from a different supplier; however, after reports emerged of those replacement phones also catching fire, a worldwide recall was issued on October 10, 2016. Production of the device was ceased the next day, and software updates were issued that bricked the devices (i.e. restricting battery capacity, blocking their ability to connect to wireless networks, etc.)

On July 7, 2017 – nine months after the Note 7 recall – Samsung released a refurbished edition of the Note 7 called Galaxy Note Fan Edition, which has a smaller battery of 3200 mAh and runs on Android 7.0 Nougat with Samsung Experience UI.

It was succeeded by the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, which was announced on August 23, 2017.
